My daughter loves going to Spirit Halloween every year, but we were worried that COVID protocols would dampen our spirits. So, to avoid potential crowds, we went on a Saturday in August right when the store opened.
There were just a few differences from last year's visit:
- Face coverings required per California mask mandate
- Fitting room closed: no trying on costumes
- Signage: no trying on masks
- Social distancing markers throughout the store
- No enclosed "haunted house"
The usual "haunted house" has been replaced with an open-air "Reaper's Island" of creepy animatronics instead.

Despite these differences, our visit was still fun with plenty of creepy animatronics, costumes, props, and décor to check out.
My daughter is a fan of the Harley Quinn aisle. |

Pandemics can't keep a good ghoul down. So deck those howls and knock those knees. It's time to haunt your local Spirit Halloween! Boo……!
